Genesis 41:33-36
JOSEPH SHOWED WISDOM
From interpreter, Joseph became an advisor. Pharaoh listened to him and found him to be wise in dealing with the impending national disaster. Joseph recommended that Pharaoh appoint someone to oversee and organise measures to deal with the situation. A fifth of the land would be dedicated to produce and store grain in the years of plenty. Stored in the cities, these reserves would serve the land of Egypt during the seven years of famine, for then, these can feed the people.
Joseph had good presence of mind to think of a good and wise plan to deal with the situation. He did not take days to come up with a plan. God had given him not only a good mind, but also a wise spirit as well as readiness of speech so that now he could stand before the great king of Egypt and speak confidently of how best to deal with a coming national disaster. This ability could have developed over the years when he had to manage work given to him by Potiphar and the head jailer.
How was Joseph able to know just what to do? First, he had the fear of the Lord. Proverbs 9: 10 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." We can begin to have wisdom only when we believe God. Wisdom increases when we read more and understand more of God’s Word. Of course we must daily obey and do as God says. True wisdom comes from God and God alone.
Name one wrong thing you have done and not done anything about
it. What will be the wise thing to do?

Thought: Wisdom comes from God and so we must ask God for it.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me daily that I might be a wise child. A wise child believes and trusts You. Thank You for the Bible and thank for the record of Joseph’s life stories and his wonderful example. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
