QUEEN VASHTI DETHRONED

MARCH 6

Esther 1:19-22

QUEEN VASHTI DETHRONED

Memucan, one of the seven princes, spoke on behalf of the wise men. He exaggerated that Vashti did wrong not only to the king, but to all the nobles and princes. He reasoned that her act of disobedience would cause other women to disrespect their husbands. Therefore, Memucan recommended that the king remove Vashti from her position as queen and never appear before the king again.

He said what the king wanted to hear and it pleased Ahasuerus to pass the law immediately. e decree went out very quickly to all the 127 provinces by express horse-and-camel mail, to tell everyone of Vashti’s disobedience, and her removal as queen. Vashti would no more appear before the king.

This lays the setting for the next scene of the story. The events move swiftly for the signi cant introduction of Esther, who will later replace Vashti as queen. King Ahasuerus and his men may be unaware of it, but God is the one who is in control of all that is happening. What seems to be the workings and plans of man, is used by God to save His chosen people, the Jews. It is for our sake also, for from the Jews shall come the Saviour of the world.

Do you think that the events in your life are driven by men? By sight alone, you may think that it is the decisions of your parents, teachers, or even your own that shape your life. But we know that it is the Living God who is in control. He is the one who works all things together for your good. The school and the class that you are in, the people that He has placed in your social circle, are all for a purpose. May you view all events through the eyes of faith, with the full assurance that your Faithful God is working out His perfect will in your life.

Thought: God never moves without purpose or plan.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive me when I have little faith and walk by sight. I pray that you will grant me the faith and full assurance that You are working all things together for my good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
