James 1:22-25
BE YE DOERS OF THE WORD
Don’t just listen to or read the Word of God. Obey it. Put it into practice. If it says, "slow to become angry", then ask God to help us to control our temper and not to act aggressively and impulsively. If it tells us to avoid "forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is", then ask God to help us to make time for church, Bible study and fellowship.
Read Colossians 3:8 and unscramble the words describing the things we must get rid of:
• GRAEN - _______________
• TWRHA - _______________
• CILEAM - _______________
• ELLBMHSPAY - _______________
• HILFTY communication - _______________
(meaning: vulgar language)
James uses the illustration of the mirror to describe people who disobey the words of Jesus. ey who hear only and don’t do what God wants are people who just look into the mirror but don’t change what’s wrong. For example, they see that their hair is untidy but don’t comb it. If they stop grooming themselves, they’ll soon forget what they really look like.
When the words in the Bible tell you that you are doing wrong and if you carry on living as you please, you are a fool because you are then rebelling against God. However, you will be blessed if you repent and determine never to do it again with God’s grace and strength.
As mentioned in the rst reading of this month, the book of James is a workbook. We must carry out the activities written in the workbook. It is no good saying that you have faith, but do not put the faith into practice. The Bible says that those who do not keep and carry out His words are __________ and the __________ is not in them (1 John 2:4).
Thought: Why should we be faithful to act on God’s Word?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, sometimes I don’t listen to the Word of God, please forgive me. Show me the importance of the Word of God and help me to keep it. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
