CHRISTIANS MUST GROW!

Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to a Christian’s understanding of God’s Word. The Apostle Peter writes in 1 Peter 2:2-3, "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious." When babies are hungry, they will cry out loud till they receive their milk. Similarly, a believer’s desire for the milk of God’s Word must be intense. They cannot do without God’s Word for "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matt 4:4).

It is thus a concern if a man does not have any desire for God’s Word. One of the characteristics of a true Christian is a hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matt 5:6). He will say just like the Apostle Peter in John 6:68, "Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life." They will be like the two men on the road to Emmaus whose hearts burnt within them when God opened the Scriptures to them (Luke 24:32). On the other hand, those who were false believers were offended by the words of Christ and eventually walked away (John 6:66). If a man has no thirst for God’s Word, it may be an indication that he is not born again!

Dear reader, ignorance of God’s Word is no laughing matter. "And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned" (Heb 6:5-8). If there is never any growth in a person’s life, then there is never ever any life!

THOUGHT: No growth, no life.
PRAYER: Lord, grant me spiritual growth day by day.
