1 Corinthians 3:18-23
Romans 8:17
"For all things are yours."
"FOR ALL THINGS ARE YOURS"
When Paul said "for all things are yours" (1 Cor 3:21) he meant that God will provide all that is necessary for the Christian to mature spiritually and to do God’s will. Indeed, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…" (Rom 8:28).
Some things given for the benefit of the Corinthian Christians were:
1. Godly leaders. Paul, Apollos, Cephas (i.e. Peter) and other faithful leaders were God’s provision to the Corinthian church to serve the members by watching over their souls. They were not there to serve self but to minister unto the saints.
2. Life. In this context, it would refer to spiritual and eternal life in the Lord Jesus Christ. However, the physical life we have is also a privilege granted by God so that we can be witnesses for Christ in this world.
3. Death. The Lord Jesus Christ died to be our substitute. He then rose again from the dead for the justification of sins. Because Christ has conquered death, the death of the saints now becomes a door unto eternal life in heaven.
4. Things present. Our possessions are given to us so that we may glorify Christ. Our present things also encompass our present experiences, which God can use to help us be perfected in our faith.
5. Things future. This refers to the future and eternal blessings in heaven. Since God had provided all things for their benefit, the Corinthian Christians must boast in God rather than in man. And so must we too.
THOUGHT: God’s divine provision is the best.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to count my blessings each day.
