1 Corinthians 6:18
Genesis 39:7-20
"…he that committeth fornication
sinneth against his own body."
FLEE FORNICATION!
How are we to deal with the sin of fornication? The best way is to stay as far away from it as possible. The Scriptural command is emphatic: "Flee fornication"! The present tense of the command indicates that one must continue to flee throughout his life. Never stop fleeing from fornication! One slip and you may be caught.
Temptations abound in the world that lures us to commit sin. One way is through the lust of the eyes. Pornography is now readily available. The media is also full of videos and pictures of people wearing revealing clothing. Be careful little eyes what you see.
David is one example of a man who succumbed to the lust of the eyes (2 Sam 11). Bathsheba was washing herself (2 Sam 11:2). David was walking on the roof of his house. His house was situated at one of the highest points in Jerusalem. David could therefore survey the activities of Jerusalem easily from his vantage point. He turned his head, he looked, and his eyes were soon fixated upon Bathsheba. Instead of fleeing, he allowed the lust of his eyes to take control. This led him to commit the sin of adultery and murder. The refusal to flee from fornication led to the downfall of a faithful king.
On the other hand, we have the positive example of Joseph (Gen 39). When Potiphar’s wife asked him to lie with her, he did not entertain the thought for one second. "…how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" (Gen 39:9).
If there is anything that tempts you to commit fornication, remove it far from you. "And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell" (Matt 5:29).
THOUGHT: What are some things that can lead me to sin?
PRAYER: Lord, help me to flee from anything that can cause me to sin.
