John 4:19-26
John 4:23
"…the true worshippers shall worship
the Father in spirit and in truth…"
A SANCTIFIED SPIRIT (2)
The Lord Jesus Christ has His perfect and sinless spirit/soul and body. When Satan tempted Jesus to fall down and worship him to gain the glory of the world, the Lord Jesus answered, "Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve" (Matt 4:10). Satan also tempts God’s children in the same way. Thus, a sanctified spirit must be separated and dedicated to the Lord to worship the living and true God alone without any idols or images. The Lord Jesus says, "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him" (John 4:23).
Many professing Christians worship God with all their zeal and strength, but as they are not born again, their zeal and strength are from their sinful self, full of feelings and emotions, deceiving themselves unawares! When Satan cannot tempt us with the things of the world, he may attack us with false doctrines, opposition or persecutions. Do we resist Satan without any compromise like our Lord Jesus so that we shall be true worshippers of God, worshipping the Father in spirit and in the truth of His Word to the jot and tittle? A sanctified spirit will follow the Lord Jesus Christ (the Good Shepherd) and His true servants (His undershepherds) in the narrow way of truth and sanctification. A sanctified spirit will not follow the majority walking in the broad way that leads to destruction. What about your spirit?
Next, a sanctified spirit will choose to believe and trust in God, in the Lord Jesus and in God’s Word alone, just like Joshua and Caleb before the unbelieving majority (Num 13-14). A sanctified spirit will stand firm on the foundation of the Lord Jesus (1 Cor 3:11) and God’s Word alone (Eph 2:20). With such a choice, the Holy Spirit will fill our spirit with His fruit of faith (Gal 5:22) so that we can build ourselves up in our "most holy faith" (Jude 20) and put on the shield of faith that quenches all the fiery darts of the devil (Eph 6:16).
THOUGHT: I must worship God in spirit and in truth.
PRAYER: I thank Thee, Father, for the privilege to worship Thee.
