JULY 19
1 CORINTHIANS 12:12
MANY MEMBERS OF ONE BODY
All gifts and talents come from God. God is the source of all spiritual blessings. His people are given talents to serve God and there are many ways of service. While Paul gave this message, God also wanted you, young readers, to know this too.
What would happen to you if your eyes suddenly decided to not see. They just shut down and refuse to do what they are supposed to do: watch and see. And then your eyes thought it best they should be eating. Can we use our eyes to eat? Of course not!
What about our ears – what if they refuse to work and do the listening but instead, try to carry us around? Can that work? Have you ever seen someone walking with his ears?
Finally, what if your hands suddenly don’t want to cooperate and want to instead smell? Can you smell with your hands? No one can! Impossible, you would think!
And you are right: it is impossible for the eyes to eat and for the ears to walk. at is what Paul was teaching us – that in the church, God has many of us doing different things according to what we are best suited for.
Your Sunday School serves God by teaching your class; the church pianist serves by rendering good music during services; the usher helps newcomers to church find seats etc... The Bible says there are many ways of serving God.
What is yours?
Thought: What are some other ways people serve God?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me nd the best way to serve Jesus as there are many ways of serving God. Teach me to also be faithful in whatever small ways I serve You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
