VISIONS AND PROPHECIES (III)

God gave His servant John Sung a vision of himself standing on a large wooden cross, as if it were a life-boat, floating on a sea of drowning people. Fired with compassion, John Sung reached out to them, pulling many a perishing soul to safety on the cross. This vision set the course for this servant of God. In fifteen flaming years he burnt out for the Lord, blazing the Gospel trail throughout the length and breadth of China and Southeast Asia, turning many to the Lord.

Holy Spirit revival came to Singapore in 1935 when John Sung opened his first series of Gospel meetings. His ministry was built on a two-prong thrust: Holy Spirit cleansing and Evangelism. Like John the Baptist, he fearlessly rebuked sin with a fiery message: “Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance!” He challenged converts to (a) live holy lives, with daily QT (Quiet Time) devotion, and (b) witness for the Lord. As a result many gave their lives to serve the Lord.

Evangelistic zeal and missionary visions won the hearts of three young people as they listened to Dr Sung. When the call to consecration came, they responded. The man of God laid hands on them and many others, and prayed that the Lord would use them for the extension of His kingdom. The vision of lost souls rushing on to a Christless eternity fired the trio. In 1950, the Bible-Presbyterian Church of Singapore and Malaysia was born. The revival of 1935 in their hearts continued to fire them to go on for the Lord. The prophecy of God’s Word spoke to them: “Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession” (Ps 2:8).

THOUGHT: Go to the Bible for God’s revelations.
PRAYER: Lord, keep me ever faithful to the heavenly vision.
