JANUARY 18, Luke 4:1-13
Following up on yesterday’s lesson, another lesson we learn from this passage is that Satan is very smart; he attacked Jesus when he was weakest. Child, remember this: Satan will attack or tempt you when you are weakest, when you are most likely to fall into his trap. When was the last time you fell into sin? It could be a burst of anger, or a rude reply to parents, or pushing a schoolmate, or being lazy to do your quiet time. It could be so many other possibilities. But you know, before each of these sins happened, you were weak. You felt irritated, or tired, or moody.
And Satan knows that. You guess how many years of experience Satan has in tempting Christians? Yes, thousands of years! He has successfully tempted many boys and girls, and you are no different.
It is always a moment of weakness. But this one moment is enough to cause us to fall. Therefore, we must always keep close to God so that Satan will not have the opportunity to win.
How did Jesus fight Satan? Jesus was weak and hungry, but he resisted the turning of stones to bread, quoting scriptures. In fact, Jesus also resisted the other 2 temptations using God’s Word. This is a clear teaching for us: we must use the Word of God to fight Satan, for on our own, we can do nothing.
How consistent is your quiet time, or reading of the Junior RPG? How often and seriously do you pray? How much do you rely on God on a daily basis? If you keep close to Him, read His Word, rely on Him, you will be like Jesus; you will have victory over Satan!
Thought: Victory over Satan is ours, if we use Word of God!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be close to You and Your Word so that I can fight against the tricks and temptations of Satan! In the victorious name of Jesus I pray, amen.
