JANUARY 26, Mark 1: 21-28
Have you ever seen Chinese mediums or Hindu devotees with spears pierced into their bodies, prancing around in trances? They apparently feel no pain; how can that be possible? Clearly these people have been empowered by a power stronger than themselves, and unfortunately they have been empowered by demons.
The passage tells us that when Jesus was teaching in a synagogue, he encountered a demon-possessed man. If you read verse 24 carefully, you will know that there was more than one demon in the man! These demons were very afraid of Jesus for they knew who he was, and the power he had; Jesus is God! Thank God it was a happy ending for that man; the demons left him.
This miracle highlights to us that we must be serious in our faith. Christianity can be fun; we play games and sing happy songs. But Christianity is not only fun and games. We live in a spiritual world, and the forces of darkness war against us. So dear child, do remember to be close to God that He may protect and guide you.
Consider whether these sentences are true or false
1. Jesus has power over the demons.
2. Jesus has power over all things.
3. Christianity is only fun and games.
4. We must be serious about our faith.
5. The demons know Jesus.
Thought: Jesus is much more powerful than Satan and all his demons combined.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your victory over Satan through the death and resurrection of Jesus. Remind me I am your child, and that nothing can harm me. Even if I may have nightmares, I pray you will give me the courage and to always pray. In Jesus’ name, amen.
