THE PERSIAN EMPIRE AFTER CYRUS

Note that Persia succeeded Babylonia as the new world-power and extended the empire into Europe.

Isaiah predicted the rise of Cyrus over 150 years before the event. He foretold how Cyrus would liberate the Jews from Babylon and help them rebuild their temple and city. Which historical books of the Old Testament are written in the Persian setting? Read 2 Chronicles 36:22-23 and the three books following! Prophecy is history written in advance. God sees the end from the beginning.

The three stages of the Jews’ return:
I. 536-516 BC Rebuilding of the Temple under ZERUBBABEL
II. 458 BC Restoration of the Law under EZRA
III. 445 BC Repair of the Wall under NEHEMIAH
