DECEMBER 17
Judges 6:38; 7:1
GIDEON ROSE UP EARLY
Gideon asked God for a sign, and the next morning he rose up early (6:38). He was eager to know whether God had answered his request. When Gideon and his men had to face their enemies, they also rose up early (7:1). It was important not to waste time. They must be ready and alert to protect their people.
When you pray for something special, you will be excited to see God’s answer. But you should not be impatient either. Dear reader, do you wake up early each day, ready to do what God wants you to do? And on Sunday, do you wake up early, excited to go to church, to sing praises to the Lord, learn about Him and have fellowship with other Christians?
Or do you sleep late on Saturday night and drag your feet to church the next day? This is especially so for second-generation Christians – meaning people whose parents are Christians. Are you a second-generation Christian? If yes, be very careful. It is likely you went to church as a young child and continue to go because it seems like part of the Sunday routine. But examine yourself. Make sure you are happy and looking forward to going to church. Otherwise, you may seriously need to consider whether you are a child of God.
If you love the Lord, you’d look forward to Sunday for you can go to church to learn God’s Word and be with God’s people. So, why stay up late on Saturday nights and feel tired on Sunday mornings.
Thought: Do I love going to church?
Prayer: Help me Heavenly Father, to cherish the opportunity to go to a good church. Help me to prepare for Sundays and to be grateful for the reading and learning of the bible with friends. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
