GIDEON’S FLEECE
DECEMBER 16

Judges 6:36-40

GIDEON’S FLEECE

There were 135,000 Midianites, Amalekites and their other enemies near them. That was a huge battle-hardened and combat ready force compared with the Israelite soldiers. Lacking confidence and faith, Gideon wanted a sign from God to confirm He would help him save the children of Israel. Understandably, he was afraid, for if we were in his shoes, we too would be frightened.

He placed a piece of fleece (wool from a sheep) on the ground and asked God to let the fleece be wet while keeping the the surrounding ground dry overnight. That’s interesting. Won’t the night dew that wets the fleece, would wet the ground too? But what Gideon requested to see came true the next morning. Still weak in his faith, Gideon wanted to be absolutely sure and asked God for another sign. This time he wanted the fleece dry and the ground wet. God kindly obliged again.

Dear children, should we follow Gideon’s example? Non-believers often ask for signs and Jesus called them wicked. Therefore, Christians ought not to do that. Unlike Gideon, we have the Bible today that has a perfect record of God’s prophecies and promises. If God has said it, it shall be done. There is no need for us to ask for signs.

Thought: Only trust in God. Jesus said that faith can move mountains.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me to trust you more and more. And please help me to be consistent with my bible reading and QT so my faith will grow in knowledge of You. By the grace of Jesus I pray. Amen.
