DO YOU REJOICE IN THE WORD?

Statutes are formally written laws that govern or regulate an organisation or nation. Every country has their set of statutes that are considered as a primary source of authority for the land. As citizens of a country, the expectation is that we would all abide by the statutes of the land, for to do otherwise would be breaking the law. However, there may be times where you disagree with a certain law. Perhaps you think that certain laws are too harsh or strict, that it impinges on your rights, or restricts your freedom in a certain way. Certain countries with corrupt rulers may also impose oppressive or unjust rules upon their people. As a result, they are angry and resentful about the law, and may choose to rebel against it.

However when it comes to the Word of God, we can have complete and absolute confidence to know that His statutes are always right! They will always be completely just, fair and righteous. We can never argue or dispute with the law of God, for they are given to us by the perfectly wise Creator of the whole universe. He is the one who made this world and gave us life, and He has every right to dictate the standards that we are to live by.

For that reason, instead of being indignant about certain aspects of God’s law, or refuse to conform to some of its standards, our response ought to be like the Psalmist, one of rejoicing! We can have every certainty to know that God’s law is always right, and the best possible thing that we can do in this life is to obey them! When we say that we have faith in God, we also have faith in His Word and His statutes. We have faith to believe that the best possible life we can have would be when we obey His Word and follow His will. We should be overjoyed that God has given us a rule to follow, and ought to do our very best to obey it down to the very jot and tittle.
