GOD’S PROMISE OF COMFORT

APRIL 21, Psalms 46:1

There is an exciting game named ‘Persecution” that some children enjoy playing in our church camp. It may sound scary but it is actually a ‘hide and seek’ game that involves the police seeking to arrest the Christians. There is also a marked place called ‘Home’ where they can hide safely. A place where we can hide safely from danger is called a refuge. God is our refuge in times of danger and trouble.

What are some of the troubles that disturb us? We may have difficulties in schoolwork or face bullies in school who instill fear in us. At home, our parents may often be quarrelling or we feel they love our sibling more than us. All these can trouble us. Who can we turn to during such times except God? He has promised in today’s text that He is a very present help. That means He is always there for us. The trouble with us is that we do not go to Him in our fear and trouble. We may seek advice from a friend. We may SMS a classmate about it. We may describe our fear and frustration on a Facebook post, but we do not tell it to the Lord.

Dear child, remember this promise of God and use it! Illustrate this verse with a big, colourful and decorative G for God.

Thought: God is our hiding place from all troubles.
Prayer: My heavenly Father, be Thou my strength and comfort every single day. I know You will help me in times of trouble. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
