GOD’S PROMISE OF TRUE WISDOM

APRIL 23, James 1:15

Do not confuse intelligence with the wisdom mentioned in today’s verse. Intelligence is the ability to learn fast and remember well. It is to be able to understand difficult concepts, to quickly reason, or plan or solve problems. The smartest child in your school may be intelligent, but that does not mean he is wise. A child who knows and obeys the Bible is wiser than an intelligent child in school who does not know the Bible.

This wisdom is the ability to understand the things of God. For example, the smartest man who is a non-Christian would not be able to understand the Bible if he has no guidance from the Holy Spirit. He may read it as it were any other book. That is not the way to read the precious Word of God! We need godly wisdom from above. We need the Holy Spirit to show us the truth.

Read the verse again. What does it say about action on our part? We must ask! But before we ask, we must desire to have this wisdom. Dear child, pray that the Lord will give you the desire to have godly wisdom so you can understand more of God’s Word and will for you. The more you read His word, the more you will like to do so. And the more you’d like to be a better Christian.

Write T for True and F for False in each of the stars:
1. All clever men are wise in the sight of God.                                   (   )
2. God will give us wisdom when we ask Him.                                   (   )
3. We don’t need wisdom from God to live in this world.                    (   )
4. If we are smart and intelligent, we won’t need to depend on God. (   )
5. The wealthy and sinful have the wisdom of God.                           (   )

Thought: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, may Thou grant me a desire for godly wisdom so that I will seek to do things according to Thy will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
