APRIL 27, Luke 14:11
Jason, blessed with great manners, a good mind and a happy personality, is very popular among his peers. He is also well-liked by his Junior Worship teachers because he is kind and helpful. Furthermore, he is an excellent leader in his school.
One of his friends visited him and saw a homemade plaque in his room with the words “I Am Third” on it. His friend asked Jason what it meant. What do you think it meant?
Jason’s reply was, “It is the motto I try to use in my life. It means ‘God is first; others are second; I am third.’”
One may think that Jason, with his popularity and blessings, has reasons to be proud, but no, he is not proud at all! Why? It is because he is a Christian, and he firmly believes that Jesus and others must come first before self. That is why he places himself as “third”.
How about you? Do you place yourself lower than God and others? Or do you always put yourself before others? If you do, then you can be described as self-centred or selfish.
There are many people who have the “Me First” mentality. When they go for a buffet, they take a lot of what they like without caring if there is nothing much left for others. What they think and want is more important than any other consideration.
The driving force in our lives should be to please God. We should take into consideration the needs of others. With our own wants controlled and submitted to Jesus, we will truly know what it is like to be humble servants of God.
Thought: Are you third?
Prayer: Our heavenly Father, thank You for the story of Jason. Although he was blessed with so much talent, he was a humble boy. May I learn to be like him and to always think of Jesus and others before me! Heavenly Father, give me a humble heart. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
