APRIL 29, Philippians 1:6
Children, do you sometimes think that you can lose your salvation because you have sinned? You may have that feeling but the Bible does not teach that. In fact, once you become God’s child, you will forever be His child. Nothing can change your relationship with God. No man can pluck you out of your Father’s hand. Every one of us is weak and make mistakes and sin sometimes. This is why God’s promise of forgiveness in 1 John 1:9 is so dear, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Look at the Apostles. See how weak they were. When the Roman soldiers caught Jesus, all of them ran away. They were afraid of being identified and caught by the Roman soldiers. Even Peter, the most daring apostle denied knowing Jesus thrice! However, they repented later. Filled with the Holy Spirit, they grew in faith and became very bold preachers of God’s word. Their acts of faith are all recorded in the Bible. God made them faithful and He completed a good work in them. That means God will keep them and guard them until the very end – that once they accept Jesus, they will be saved forever!
Will He do the same to us? Yes, God has promised in today’s text! However, we have to be very careful here. A naughty child or an evil man may think that he can live his life in any way he wants since God has promised eternal life that can never be lost to any person who accepts Jesus. Do you think that is right?
A real Christian will never think in that way. A real Christian will be so grateful to the Lord that he’ll try his or her best not to do anything to displease God. This is not to say he or she will not sin. Because we are in the flesh we sometimes do yield to temptation and sin, while we are on this earth. But the desire to sin will dim as we become more and more sanctified. We’ll love God and His Word and His people more and more.
What is the GOOD WORK that God has started in us and will bring it to a perfect end?
