APRIL 11, 1 John 1:9
Have you ever told a lie? Be careful with your answer. If you answer “Never”, you have just told another lie! Lying is a sin. Do you feel guilty after telling a lie? If you don’t, then there is reason to worry. Your conscience is seared. Even the Holy Spirit cannot make you see you have done wrong and have sinned against God. He may not be in you.
What is the right thing to do if you realise that you have told a lie? Tell the person or persons you have lied to that you are sorry. A Christian who has lied will feel disturbed until he repents. For example, you denied copying your classmate’s answers when in reality you did it. Or you had broken your neighbour’s window and put the blame on your friend. This may result in your friend or classmate not forgiving or trusting you ever again. This is the consequence of sin. Sin always results in suffering and pain.
More importantly, you need to confess your sin to the Lord who has given us a wonderful promise. Unlike your non-Christian friend or classmate who may or may not forgive you, God will forgive you and forget your sins.
