BE CHEERFUL GIVERS!

APRIL 20, 2 Corinthians 9:7

We are taught to give to the Lord by tithing a portion of our pocket money to the church. There may be some of us who may do so unwillingly. Today’s verse teaches us that when we give, we are to do it cheerfully.

Generosity does not require giving a large amount but to give out of charity and kindness. God will never overlook even the smallest gift as long as it is given out of love. If you give a large portion of what you can afford, do it cheerfully as a token of love for God and He will be pleased with you.

When Jesus saw a poor widow offer her last two mites to God, He said that she was far more generous than the rich men who cast their gifts into the treasury. Why? Surely their gifts are worth much more than two mites.

That is true, but what Jesus wanted to point out is that the widow gave all she had to live on out of faith, so hers was a true sacrifice compared to the rich men who gave out of the abundance of their wealth.

Money is not the only thing you can give. You can give of your talents and time to serve God and others. All our talents are gifts from God. Whether in singing, playing a musical instrument, drawing or speaking, you can always find an opportunity to use them to help others. Or just in sharing. The next time you have something – whether it be food or a toy – learn to share with others. And do it happily.

Now,we know that there are so many forms of giving. What is important to do is to give with a cheerful heart!
