OUR DUTY TO SHARE THE GOSPEL!

MAY 26, Romans 10:14

“So, that’s what I’ve been wanting to tell you,” finished Joe. For a long time he’d been trying to find courage to witness to his friend. “Ever since I became a Christian at camp, I wanted to tell you, but I never knew how to bring it up.”

“Since it’s so important to you, you should have told me, your best friend, about it sooner,” said Mike. Joe blushed. “I should have,” he admitted. Mike patted him on the shoulder. “Well, I’m glad you finally did. I’ve been wondering about God lately. Maybe you can answer some of my questions.”

“Sure!” Joe felt a sense of relief, and the boys talked more about Jesus and His love for everyone. Before the evening ended, to Joe’s amazement, Mike asked Jesus to be his Saviour! “I’m sorry I waited so long to tell you about Jesus,” Joe apologised, “but I sure am glad you’re a Christian now, Mike.”

“Me, too!” Mike grinned at his friend as he looked at his watch. “Well, I’ve got to go home. You remember we’re going to Bali tomorrow and the family has to wake up very early to go to the airport! Am really looking forward to it!” With those words, the two boys parted as they both looked forward to the one-month school break.

The next day, Joe had a good time with his family as dad took the day off from work. They went to the zoo and were having lunch when they watched the news on TV from the hamburger stand. “Tragedy struck a family this morning,” came the voice of a news reporter. “A car with a family of five was hit when a truck ploughed into them.”

“Oh, no!” gasped Joe. “That looks like the car of Mike’s dad!” “All the members of the family escaped,” the voice continued, “except eleven-yearold Michael Tan, who lost his life in the crash.” Joe was first shocked, then broke down crying. “I can’t believe it!” he said between sobs. “I was talking to Mike last night, and now he’s d dead!” “I’m sorry, Joe …so sorry.” Dad put his arm around Joe’s shoulder. “I wish I hadn’t waited so long to tell Mike about Jesus,” Joe said slowly, “but just think… if I hadn’t told him yesterday, he would have been lost forever and I would never see him again! I’m so glad he became a Christian last night.”

Dad nodded. “I am, too,” he said. “We’re so sad now, but some day there will be a wonderful reunion when you see him in heaven.”

Thought: Have you put off telling someone about Jesus?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me of my responsibility to share the Gospel with the unsaved. In Jesus’ name I pray – Amen.
