ARE YOU DIFFERENT FROM AN UNBELIEVER?

JUNE 20, 1 Thessalonians 5:5

Are you no different from an unbeliever? If you are no different, then something is wrong. We should be very different from the people of the world. Our Lord said that He is not of the world, therefore His followers are not of the world ( John 17:16).

What are followers of Christ like? They are a group of people who are alert to the coming danger in the last days. We are living in this period. We are children of the day, sober- minded having faith, love and hope. In short, believers trust God, love God and feel secured in God. We are well prepared for the perils in the last days before Tribulation comes and can live each day calmly.

We are to be children of light, not of darkness. What does this mean? Children of light have God as their heavenly Father; children of darkness have Satan as their ruler. As Christians, we are children of light, as we have God as our heavenly Father. That is why we are different from unbelievers.

These differences must come from inside. Some kids are nice and courteous, but only when their parents or guardians are around. They appear to be good, but inside, they remain unchanged. As children of light, we cannot be like that. We are to have the Holy Spirit inside, and the Holy Spirit is to change and guide us. Then slowly, these changes may be seen in our lives.

For starters, don’t do what you used to do when you were not saved. If you were a selfish child before you came to know Jesus, change. If you were boastful in the past, be humble. If you used to want attention directed at yourself, you now know that is not right, so please ask God to help you change. It is a long process, but all of us must try with prayer.

Don’t take God’s words lightly. His Word gives you the truth and the truth will set you free.

Thought: Are you different from what you were in the past?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, convict my heart by Your Word and help me to rely on Jesus to live a life that will be different from unbelievers. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
