The truth of God’s love and sovereignty can bring a discouraged believer back on track. When you are discouraged, know these truths:

1. (Verse 13a) – God __________ us. Paul described Christians as ‘beloved of the Lord’. God saved us because He loves us. He proved this love at the cross where Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world.
2. (Verse 14a) – God __________ us. God prepared His people to respond to His Word. Those respond to His Word respond to His call.
3. (Verse 14b) – God gave us __________ . In the future, we shall share in the glory of God. We are awaiting Christ’s return, and then His glory shall be revealed and we shall be like Him.

Not knowing the truth in God’s Word, one cannot be saved. Truth saves! The truth shall set us free!

There is an old hymn with beautiful words that I’d like to share with you. The words are figurative – meaning they symbolise ideas and things. Have you heard this hymn?

Thou art the bread of life, O Lord to me;
Thy holy Word the truth that saveth me;
Give me to eat and live with Thee above;
Teach me to love Thy truth, for Thou art love.
O send Thy Spirit, Lord, now unto me;
That He may touch my eyes and make me see;
Show me the truth concealed within Thy Word,
And in Thy book revealed I see the Lord.
