Every name has a meaning. Since we are going to spend one month learning about Gideon, it will be useful to know what the name Gideon means!

In Hebrew, Gideon means “feller of trees” or “powerful warrior”. That is a wonderful name, and indeed the biblical Gideon fulfilled the meaning of his name for he was a mighty warrior leading the people of God in battles.

You may know of boys called Alan, Bryan, Calvin; you may know of girls called Alicia, Betty or Carolyn. There are so many names. And we have our Chinese names or Indian names, and they would mean something.

Do you know the meaning of your name? Go ask your parents! Whatever names we have, there is one that all of us have in common: Christian.

Because of what Jesus has done on the cross and because of our repentance and faith in God the Father, we are all “Christians”. What does this word – Christian – mean? Simply, it means a “follower of Christ”. Are you a follower of Christ? If so, we must know what Christ wants us to do. And how do we do that? By reading and knowing more of the Bible!

Dear child, if you’re a Christian, there are responsibilities. You’d read the Bible and do your QT consistently. There may be times when you are not able to do it. There could be a host of reasons, but try to keep at it. Press on. The Lord knows it is not easy, for you may be busy, forgetful and distracted. But, He has given us the privilege of prayer. So, we may ask Him in prayer to help us remember to read and love the Bible more! The more we read and pray, the more we will grow spiritually!

That is the meaning of the RPG – Read, Pray, Grow!
