JANUARY 10, Proverbs 6:6-11
Why learn from ants? To have the same number of brain cells as one human being, it takes 40,000 ants. However, an ant is ‘much stronger’ than a human being relatively because it can lift 20 times its own body weight. Surely no man can do even half of that! Yet, man lives a good 80 years on the average, compared to the ant’s 2 months. So, what exactly can we learn from ants?
Ants are always busy. Sometimes, you get dizzy just looking at them! Ants are hardworking and well organised. Do you know all ants have duties? There are babysitters that look after the young, guards that defend the nest, and housekeepers that clean the house. The most common duty is foraging for food. Not only do ants gather food for the present, they also collect food for the future. They do not waste time lazing around but prepare for their future.
Laziness will soon make us poor. Let us take note and spend our time on earth wisely. Do you know that God will commend us in heaven for good works that we have done for Him on earth? So, let us be wise and work hard for God now.
Which of the following activities are a waste of your time? Cross them out.
1. Staying up till 2 am to watch the last episode of a Korean drama serial.
2. Spending some time with Grandpa who is sick and lying in bed.
3. Doing the dishes so that Mom can have a rest.
4. Trying every dress on to make sure you look your best at tomorrow’s party.
5. Reading up the text books and preparing for tomorrow’s lessons in class.
6. Memorising Bible verses.
Thought: I must treasure time and use it wisely for God.
Prayer: Father in Heaven, thank You for teaching me not to waste time on things that do not matter. Give me the discipline to carry out my duties. May I be a hardworking and helpful Christian child. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
