JANUARY 12, Proverbs 10:4-5
Summer is the season of harvests. It is when many hands are required to work in the farms to bring in the fruits and crops. In ancient times, many farming families welcomed the birth of many sons because they could work in the fields when they grew up. If a son grew up to be obedient and diligent, loving and caring toward his family, he would do his parents proud. Our Heavenly Father calls him a wise son.
On the contrary, when the son developed a couldn’t-care-less attitude and remained idle while others slogged in the fields, he would disappoint his parents. He would be a disgrace to them. God looks at this sin seriously. He wants us to honour our parents so much that it is stated as the fifth Commandment.
Surely you will like God to call you a wise son or daughter, won’t you? But, do you know that there are things you need to do to earn that title?
1. First begin with a check on your attitude.
Do I feel responsible for keeping my ____________________?
Do I care if Mom is ____________________________________?
Do I bother to ask if Brother needs ______________________?
Do I ask Dad for permission ____________________________?
2. Next, pray and confess your sin of not honouring / caring for your parents / sister or brother.
3. Finally, make a list of what you can do to show your love and care:

Thought: I should be wise in choosing to be diligent with my God given duties at home.
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, help me to be that wise son/daughter. Give me strength to change my couldn’t-care-less and lazy attitude. I know I’ve been unhelpful or even selfish in the past, so please help me to begin to do right by doing the tasks I have listed down. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
