GOD’S CHOICE OF GIDEON

DECEMBER 9, Judges 6:13-15

The LORD told Gideon he had been chosen to deliver Israel from the oppression of the Midianites. But Gideon questioned as to how he could possibly do that. His family was poor and he was “the least” in his father’s house. Gideon probably meant he was the youngest or not an important or influential member of his family. What power would he have to save the nation? None! From this, we can see how humble Gideon was. There was no trace of arrogance in him.

Tomorrow we will hear the LORD’s promise to Gideon! Today, we read that Gideon was chosen by God to serve Him. This means God called him to the ministry.

Dear child, God has chosen you to read this. Do you know that God wants you to be the best Christian you can be at home and at school? Have you listened and obeyed this call? When God calls someone, should they say “no”?

God may not have chosen you to do something as major as the task for Gideon. But each day, each small area of our life, can be an opportunity for us to do something for God. It does not need to be something extreme or far-reaching in its impact, It is good enough for us to live each day righteously for the Lord.

1. God told (ohna) __________ to build an ark because God was going to send a global (worldwide) flood [Genesis 6:13-14].

2. The Lord told (bmraa) __________ to leave his home in Haran and follow the Lord to a new land [Genesis 12:1].

3. The Lord in the midst of a burning bush called (ssmoe) __________ [Exodus 3:4].

4. The Lord came and called and (mlause) __________ answered [I Samuel 3:10].

5. The Lord said “Whom shall I send?” and (aahisi) __________ said, ”Send me” [Isaiah 6:8].

Thought: When God calls, I must promptly answer.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me how to be attentive to Your call to service and to count it a privilege. This is my prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen.
