DECEMBER 14, Judges 6:29-32
The men of the city were very angry that someone had thrown their idol down.Soon they found out that the culprit was Gideon. They told Gideon’s father, Joash to “bring out” Gideon because they wanted to put Gideon to death. But God protected Gideon for his obedience. Joash told the men of the city that if Baal was really a god, Baal would take care of himself. That day his father gave Gideon a new name, Jerubbaal, which meant “let Baal plead.” The word “plead” means complain against or defend himself.
Dear reader, do you know an idol is also some person or some thing that you love more than God. It is not a bad thing to love people and things but do not love them more than you love God.
You must have heard of the TV programme, “ The American Idol”. It promotes the kind of hero worship common among kids who would adore pop stars, singers or movie actors or even school leaders. Some adore things like: music, studies, food, games which would be alright if taken in moderation. Never give in to an excessive amount of such things for they may cause you to lose your love for God.
Circle the things that you love or enjoy.

IMPORTANT: I must not love any of them more than God!
Thought: God loves me so much - I must love God most of all!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to spend more time with You and Your Word, so that I will learn to love You more. I know that I tend to stray and love other things more, so please help me Father not to do that. I must worship only You. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
