GIDEON ROSE UP EARLY

DECEMBER 17, Judges 6:38

Gideon asked God for a sign, and the next morning he rose up early (6:38). He was eager to know whether God had answered his request. Gideon was also eager to meet with God and commune with Him.

Dear reader, do you wake up early each day, eagerly to have your morning devotion and pray to God? And on Sunday, do you wake up early, excited to go to church, to sing praises to the Lord, learn about Him and have fellowship with other Christians?

Or do you sleep late on Saturday night and drag your feet to church the next day? If you answer is yes, this is a wrong attitude that you should correct. If you love the Lord, you’d look forward to Sunday for you can go to church to learn God’s Word and be with God’s people. So, why stay up late on Saturday nights and feel tired on Sunday mornings.

Will you follow the example of Gideon in rising early to meet with God? Even the Lord Jesus, the Son of God rose up early to commune with God the Father. Mark 1:35 says, “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”

Thought: May I honour the Lord by rising early to start each day with Bible reading and prayer.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me an eagerness to commune with You. Help me to prepare myself for Sunday worship and be in church punctually. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
