DECEMBER 21, Judges 7:15-18 

Gideon thanked God for leading him into the enemy camp to hear that encouraging message. You can perhaps, imagine how frightened Gideon could have been when God told him to go into the enemies’ camp. He would be walking straight into the stronghold of the powerful Midianite army! But still, Gideon obeyed God. And what a wonderful blessing he received when he obeyed!

Greatly encouraged, he must have sprinted back to his men, woke them up, and told them the Lord had assured them of victory. Gideon divided his 300 men into 3 groups. Each man was given a trumpet and an empty water jar with a torch inside. The soldiers put the torches inside the water jars to hide the light from the enemy. Gideon told them to look at him and follow what he did. When Gideon blew his trumpet every man would do the same and shout “ The sword of the LORD and of Gideon!”

Dear reader, did you notice their battle-cry was not “the sword of Gideon” though Gideon was their commander. Gideon knew it was the Lord who had arranged for him to listen to that conversation in the enemy camp. Gideon knew it was the Lord who promised him victory, and and therefore all glory must be given to God.

Remember always that it is God who gives you whatever intelligence, talents, and blessings you have. Always be grateful to God and give Him the honour. Of course, this is easier said than done. Sometimes when people praise us for either doing well in a test or scoring high marks in assessments or having a talent such as playing the piano or drawing well, we could be given to pride. Watch out! If you begin to feel puffed up, push the alarm button. Remember: “ The sword of the LORD”.
