BOUGHT WITH A PRICE

JULY 12, 1 Corinthians 6:20

If you go into a store to buy something, you pay a price for it. Our salvation too has a price that needs to be paid. Jesus had to shed His precious blood and die so that we might be saved. This was the price Jesus paid up to redeem us.

Tony and a few of his friends had gone fishing in the lake where they were not supposed to. They had thought that it was alright, but it wasn’t. When they were caught, each of them had to pay a $100 fine because what they did was against the law.

The friends then gathered in Tony’s house to discuss the matter. John, one of the friends, said, “I don’t even have $10, how am I going to pay the fine?” Not only John, but the others also did not have the money. Tony’s father overheard their conversation and felt sorry for them, so he said, “I’ll pay your fines for you.”

“All of ours? Mine too?” John asked.

“Yes, yours too,” he answered.

In a way, that’s like what Jesus did for all of us. He paid the fines we owe God for breaking His commandments. He didn’t pay money – He did much more; He gave His life. Jesus died for all. The “fines” we owe God, which would be eternal punishment in hell, are all paid up. Since Jesus has done so much for us, we must be thankful, and obey Him. We must not do things to please ourselves but to please God.

Thought: Am I grateful to the Lord Jesus for dying on the cross for my sins?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus into the world to die for my sins. Help me to love You more and spend time consistently in prayer and quiet time of reading Your Word. So help me, God. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
