ISAAC - THE SON OF PROMISE

OCTOBER 10, Genesis 21:3; 22:1-13

According to God’s promise, Isaac was born to Abraham and Sarah in their old age. Isaac must have been so precious to his parents and surely Abraham would have taught his son to love and obey God. One day, God told Abraham to do something that no father would think of doing which was to take up his son, Isaac up to a mountain and offer him as a sacrifice. Do you think God really wanted Abraham to sacrifice Isaac? We now know He didn’t.

The task God commanded Abraham to do was a test to strengthen Abraham’s faith and his obedience in trusting God. God is a just and loving God. He will only want the best for His children. Sometimes, God sends difficult times and situations to us in order that we be tested and through these tests, our faith would be strengthened. How did Abraham fare? Well, he obeyed God and he was prepared to sacrifice Isaac.

Isaac was obedient like his father. He neither struggled nor tried to escape during the incident. Isaac trusted in his father and more importantly in God. What would you do if you were Isaac? Do you know that by obeying your parents you are also obeying God?

Dear children, while you are praying do remember to pray for your parents. It is our duty to obey our parents and pray for them. Pray for God to strengthen their faith so that they can continue to be godly parents and role models. If you have not done so, you can start doing today. God will bless children who love their parents.

Thought: Do I trust in God?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me to not lean on my own understanding but to trust in You and pray without ceasing. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
