OCTOBER 11, Genesis 25:25-34; Hebrews 12:16
Yesterday we read of Isaac as a young boy. Today and tomorrow we will read about the children of Isaac. For years, Isaac and his wife Rebekah had no children and that pained them. Isaac prayed hard that God bless them with children and after twenty years, God answered his prayer with not one, but with a pair of twin boys! Esau, being the firstborn of the twin boys, he was given the birthright (a privilege which a person is entitled by birth). In this case, it was a privilege to inherit spiritual responsibilities and duties from his father, in his father’s absence. However, Esau took his birthright for granted and sold it for food (Hebrews 12:16)! He did not understand the importance of things, and valued food more than his birthright.
On hindsight, that sounds unwise. But are we like Esau? Do we lose sight of that which is really valuable and go after things that are less important? Dear children, do you crave for the approval and fun of friends than for the quiet time of reading and obeying the precious Word of God?
Dear children, do you know what your spiritual responsibilities and duties are? May we learn NOT to be like Esau, but to strive to learn each day the spiritual things of God. May we learn to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and many other things shall be added unto us!
Read Matthew 6:31-33. What can you learn from these verses?
