JOSEPH – THE LORD WAS WITH HIM

OCTOBER 13, Genesis 37:3-11, 26-28

We now move on to the next generation – the children of Jacob.

The second youngest son of Jacob and Rachel, Joseph was also his father’s favourite. Jacob gave him a beautiful coat of many colours. In those days, a colourful coat is very expensive and rare. Because of this gift and Jacob’s love towards his son, Joseph was well hated by his ten older brothers.

As a young boy, Joseph had 2 dreams, both of which were interpreted to mean that he would have dominion over all his older brothers and his parents, and they will one day bow down to him. Upon hearing this, it further angered his brothers and their hatred and jealousy grew. Joseph was eventually captured and sold off as a slave by his older brothers when he was out looking for them.

Dear reader, young Joseph loved God “and the Lord was with Joseph” (Genesis 39:2). Many years later, his dreams came true and he became the second most powerful man in Egypt! His dreams were not his own desire to be lording over others; his dreams were from God! Let us learn to be like Joseph – to trust God. And when you trust the Lord, He will protect you because God will be with you.

Thought: Do I trust God only when things are going well?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to trust You in good as well as in bad times. May I learn to be like Joseph, to constantly trust in You, in whatever circumstances of life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
