OCTOBER 14 Exodus 2:1-10; Hebrews 11:24-26
Most of us are familiar with the account of Moses: as a baby, he was saved by God from potential death. Pharaoh had ordered all Hebrew baby boys to be killed as soon as they were born but his mother was brave enough to hide him. She hid him for 3 months, and when she could no longer do so, she placed him in a basket made of papyrus plant which was coated with tar, and set afloat down the River Nile.
Crocodiles could have taken him for a light snack, or the waters could have easily engulfed him; but with God as protector, nothing could harm baby Moses. According to God’s plan, Pharaoh’s daughter found baby Moses and adopted him as her son. She then summoned Moses’ mother and paid her to take care of baby Moses. How God takes care of His people!

When Moses grew up and learnt of his real identity, he refused the trappings of the wealth of Egypt and followed God (Hebrews 11:24-26). He chose to suffer affliction with God’s people and gave up the wealth and status of a prince of Egypt.
Mark 8:36 teaches, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” This Bible verse confirms that what Moses did was indeed wise, for it is true that the value of his soul far exceeds that of everything in this world. Why? Because everything in this world will one day perish, but the rescued soul will live forever in Heaven with God! Dear children, do you have the right priorities in life like Moses?
Thought: What am I willing to sacrifice for Jesus?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me how to love You above anything on earth. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
