OCTOBER 15 Exodus 2:4-8
Moses had an older sister – Miriam. Remember her mother built a papyrus basket for baby Moses? Surely Miriam helped to prepare the boat. Continuing with this amazing account, the Bible tells us she stood by the River Nile to watch what would happen to her baby brother.
The very act of watching her brother is one of bravery. Why? Would danger not befall her? That is very possible as the Egyptians were not kind towards the Hebrew people. In fact, they were downright cruel, for the Pharaoh ordered the killing of all Hebrew baby boys! As a Hebrew, she must have been afraid that Pharaoh’s daughter could be as cruel as him!
Despite any fear, she was ready to help, out of love for her baby brother.
Dear children, how much do you love your brother or sister? God has a special reason for placing them in your life. We often hear of stories of sisters and brothers not getting along. May this not be said of you and your siblings.
Know that your sister or brother loves you even though they may not say it. Remember the times when they were concerned for you. Although there may be also times they were inconsiderate or naughty towards you, it does not mean they do not love you. Like you, they are not perfect. They are trying to love you more. Would you try to love them more?
Thought: God has placed my sister or brother in my life for a purpose!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please teach me to love my brother and sister the way You have loved me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
