THE FAITHFUL LITTLE SLAVE GIRL

OCTOBER 24, 2 Kings 5:1-4, 9-14

Do you thank God for your parents and your siblings? Do you thank God that you can see them every day and spend family time together? In today’s Bible passage, we read about a little girl who was captured during a war and was brought to a foreign land from Israel to Syria to be a slave. She served the wife of a great man in Syria named Naaman. He was powerful and favoured by the king, but he was sick. He had leprosy, a disease that will cause body parts and joints to rot and eventually die. We learnt from the passage that Naaman’s leprosy was healed by God with the help of the young slave.

In those days, once a person becomes a slave, they will be a slave for the rest of their lives, unless someone redeemed them. Though the little girl was made a slave against her will and will never to see her family again, she remained faithful to God. She demonstrated her faith by helping her master. She informed her master’s wife that Elisha the prophet could heal the master from leprosy. She was a faithful servant to her earthly master because she knew that all things that happen in her life are according to the will of God. Though in slavery, she continued to trust and obey God.

Will you be like this little slave to trust and obey God when you are faced with trouble in school or at home? Will you help those who have been unkind to you when they need help?

Dear children, you too can be like the little slave girl. You can be God’s little missionary in school or at play, by being kind and helping those who have been unkind. Be a good obedient child at home and be considerate towards your brother and sister. By doing so, people will see Jesus in you and one day, they too may want to come to know Jesus Christ.

Thought: I can be a local missionary and point others to Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please teach me to trust and obey Thee increasingly each day so that I can be a good witness for Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
