OCTOBER 25, 2 Kings 11:1-4, 20-21
Joash also known as Jehoash was one year old when his father, King Ahaziah of Judah was killed. His mother Zibiah was from Beersheba. Little Joash was helpless when his evil grandmother, Athaliah took over the throne. She ordered the killing of all the king’s sons who were descendants of King David. Athaliah did not know that Little Joash was saved by his aunt, Jehosheba, who was the sister of King Ahaziah. Athaliah ruled Judah for six years and Little Joash was hiding and living in the house of the Lord all this time.
Can you imagine how tragic and sad it must have been for Joash to have such an evil and wicked grandmother? She loved money and power over kinship. When Joash was 7 years old, Jehoiada the priest, led the rulers and soldiers to overthrow Queen Athaliah and had her killed. Joash was made king at the young age of seven. He was taught by Jehoiada and did that which was right in the sight of the Lord (2 Kings 12:2).
Dear children, as you read about the life of Joash and his evil grand- mother, may you learn about God’s providential care and protection over you as you live your life. God through Jehosheba, saved Joash’s life. rough this lesson may you learn to be grateful for godly parents or guardians who love and take care of you. God has appointed them to look after you.
Write down what you could do to show your appreciation to your parents:
