JOSIAH – THE SPIRITUAL KING

OCTOBER 26, 2 Kings 22:1-2; 23:1-3

Josiah became king of Judah when he was only 8 years old. His father Amon lived a wicked life and did that which was evil in God’s sight. Because of his wickedness, his life was cut short. He died at the age of 24 years old and he had only been a king for 2 years. Unlike his father, Josiah was king for 31 years.

Josiah was a humble and spiritual king. He followed God’s teaching through Hilkiah, the high priest. As he grew up, he continued to seek after God. He ordered Hilkiah to repair God’s temple and sent men to destroy all the idol altars in Judah. When a copy of God’s law was found, Josiah had it read to all his people. Josiah made a covenant before God that he would walk after the Lord, to keep his commandments, his testimonies and his statutes with all his heart and soul. And all his people followed.

Dear children, sometimes we may be discouraged by what is happening around us. Sometimes, the environment we live in may not be conducive for godly living. For example, our parents may not be Christians or our Christian parents do not live a godly life at home. Or perhaps we have naughty friends in school who are a bad influence to us. But we must always look to the Lord, and follow Him.

Let us follow the wonderful example of Josiah to be a good follower of God and obey Him. May we be good examples so that others can see Jesus in us.

Thought: Am I a good example?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please teach me to live a holy and godly life for Thee. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
