BOY WITH 5 LOAVES & 2 FISH –SERVING GOD SELFLESSLY

OCTOBER 29, John 6:9-13

A large crowd followed Jesus Christ after they have heard and seen of the many miracles Jesus did to heal the sick. The crowd sat and listened to Jesus’ teaching for hours. Soon, it was time for lunch but they did not have food because they were at the countryside near the mountain.

However, we learnt from today’s passage that Jesus performed a fantastic miracle by feeding the crowd with only 5 barley loaves and 2 small fish that the disciple took from a little boy who was there in the crowd. Jesus took the food and gave thanks to God before He distributed them to His disciples and the disciples to the people in the crowd. After everyone ate to their heart’s content, Jesus told the disciples to gather all the bread that was left. The disciples then gathered twelve baskets of bread! How amazing!

What may we learn today? Be like Jesus, to give thanks to God for all that we have, even though it may seem little. Learn from the little boy who gave even though he was poor. In those days, barley was regarded as food only fit for the animals to eat. This tells us that the little boy who willingly gave up his lunch came from a poor family. Let us be like the little boy, to give cheerfully even though it may seem that what we have is very small. For we know that Jesus can use the small things we give to accomplish great things for His glory!

Dear children, are you then willing to do the following for Jesus?

a. to be a cheerful giver
b. to share things with others
c. to do the above happily and willingly

Most of all, let us remember that God can use the small things we give to accomplish great things for His glory!

Thought: May I be willing to share with others.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me to be kind and be a cheerful giver serving You with all my resources. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
