YE SHALL BE FREE INDEED (II)

(a) The Lord Jesus Christ: Our Lord Jesus says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” Our Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again for our justification (Rom 4:25), so He is able to set us free from sins, the curse of the law and condemnation, “who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree” (1 Pet 2:24). Many know God’s Word and believe in Jesus Christ, but they are still slaves of sins. Why? They are trying to overcome their sinful nature by their own strength. Our Lord Jesus is able not only to save us from sins but also to deliver us from our sinful nature (Rom 7:24-25). Like Paul, we are not to trust ourselves but humbly turn to the Lord Jesus alone with our trust and surrender (John 15:5).

When I was studying at the Far Eastern Bible College in Singapore, I met several students who have been set free from drug addiction by their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Lord is using their lives in the ministry! Praise the Lord! He is our great Deliverer and Saviour!

(b) The Holy Spirit: The Bible says, “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Cor 3:17). David acknowledged that he was sinful and cried to the Lord in repentance (Ps 51:10-12). The Holy Spirit is able to regenerate us and sanctify us and fill us with His divine nature so that we may overcome sins and bear His fruit (Rom 8:2; Gal 5:22-23). Shall we not wisely submit ourselves to the Holy Spirit’s control?

THOUGHT: Submission to God’s Truth is Christian true liberty.

PRAYER: Father, I thank Thee for making me free through Thy Truth.
