A FALLING AWAY FIRST
 
To the Apostle Paul, God committed the ministry of warning, the solemn charge of alerting the faithful Church to the grave peril which will befall Christendom before our Lord returns. In today’s reading, this “least of the apostles” says, “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first…” “That day” here refers to the day of our Lord’s return (2 Thess 2:3). What is the Apostle saying to us?
 
Before our Lord’s return there will be a “falling away” (2 Thess 2:3) first. This process of departure from the faith must first run its course before our Lord’s return can take place. We therefore focus our attention on the “falling away” process, and examine the churches in Christendom which have departed from “the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 3). When we study the situation objectively and with the searchlight of God’s Word, we are struck, nay stunned, by the massive “falling away” or defection from the fundamental doctrines of the historic Christian faith. What is the evidence?
 
Our examination of the doctrines and practice of the main groupings in Christendom reveals an overwhelming infection by the apostasy of the end time affecting ALL the main divisions of Christendom:
 
a) The Roman Church (850 million)
b) The World Council of Churches (over 500 million)
c) The Evangelicals under the “Lausanne” leadership and the agreement of the ECT documents
d) The Charismatic Movement, a widespread trans-denominational phenomenon
e) The United Religions Initiative, spear-heading the compromising, interfaith movement.
 
All these are converging under the inexorable impetus and genius of the ECUMENICAL MOVEMENT to form OIKOUMENE (ONE WORLD). This is the FALLING AWAY! Do not be a part of it! Get out of it!
 
THOUGHT: If OIKOUMENE is on the way, can Christ be far behind?
PRAYER: Father, may I be found faithful to Thy Word when Thou returnest.
