A FALLING AWAY: URO
 
In June 1995, the Interfaith Summit Conference was held with the objective of “uniting the world’s religions into a global organization.” Modelled after the United Nations, the proposed United Religions Organisation (URO) would be an international, inter-religious organisation with affiliation to the United Nations. On 26 June 2000 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, the United Religions Initiative (URI) was born. Its birth was marked by a signing by the participants at the Global Summit 2000. The purpose of the URI as set forth in their document is “to promote enduring, daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence and to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings.” In line with this religious unifying endeavour, it is inevitable that a unifying “book” be produced. So, it is no surprise that the “World Scripture” came forth. It is a composite of the major beliefs of all the faiths in the world. It accepts as equally valid and true all the teachings of all religions.
 
Where is all this leading to but a further falling away!! The “World Scripture” to replace the Bible! “All ways lead to God” instead of “Jesus is the only way!” Save the earth, never mind the souls of the people!! Christian, what is your response to this? It is easier to just flow with the tide, do what is acceptable and take the broad way. But, Christian, awake! Do not be lulled by the lullaby of the world. Do not be drawn into this compromising position.
 
2 Peter 3:10: “…the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” This earth is not worth saving. Your efforts will only go to waste! Peter says further, “We, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness… be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless” (2 Pet 3:13-14). To be forewarned is to be forearmed! It is easy to get onto the slide of compromise. But once on it, you have only one way to go. Down! Be wise, do not even get onto it!
