JULY 10,1 Kings 17:11-15
The widow at Zarephath was very poor. She had nothing left to live on, but a handful of flour and a little oil for a last meal with her son. She had only sticks to make a fire with. Was she not in greater need of help than Elijah?
Yet, God sent Elijah to this poor widow to be taken care of. This is beyond human understanding. However, Elijah just trusted God and went as told. When the widow revealed that her food supply was almost fully used up, Elijah assured her that: “For thus saith the God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.” (1 Kings 17:14). Without a question or doubt, the widow just got up and made the cake Elijah asked for, before cooking for her son and herself. She acted in faith. She believed Elijah’s words were truly the words of God.
The widow lived by faith. God was so pleased by her faith that He blessed her with a never-ending supply of flour and oil. You can also live like this widow, trusting God to help you deal with bullies at school, give tithes no matter how little pocket money you have and overcome that addiction of computer games.

Thought: Trusting God pleases Him.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to believe that You can help solve my problems because nothing is impossible with You. I may have problems at home, or in school. Help me to be like the widow – committing everything into Your loving hands. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
