AUGUST 22, Hebrews 10:24, 25
Why is going to Sunday School important? There is a story told of Kok Leong who stopped attending Sunday school. He either stayed at home to watch television programs or went outside to play with his neighbours. Do you think he did the right thing in quitting Sunday school?
Gradually, Kok Leong mixed with the wrong company and he stopped doing his Quiet Time. One day, he and his friends decided to steal a bicycle but they were caught red-handed by the owner who handed them to the police. Kok Leong could not believe his eyes when he saw the policeman walking towards him – it was Teacher Mike his Sunday School teacher! You can imagine what happened next. Teacher Mike had to punish Kok Leong as he would any other thief, but thank God the owner decided not to put up any charge against the boys. That night, Kok Leong was also touched by Teacher Mike who said, “If you repent, the Heavenly Judge, our loving Heavenly Father, will forgive you anytime.”
From that day on, Kok Leong learnt his lesson and decided to return Sunday School. The next Sunday, he was bright and early! And guess who was there to welcome him?
It is important for you to go to Sunday school and church every week. God wants us to be with other Christians to worship God together and to encourage each other. Christians should be concerned about one another. We must know God’s Word so that we will grow in our faith in Jesus and in love for other believers.
There is a song that goes like this: Everybody ought to go Sunday school Sunday school, Sunday school Men and women, and boys and girls Everybody ought to go Sunday school.
Thought: Do I appreciate Sunday School?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for Sunday school and my teachers. Help my teachers to teach me well. Remind me that I must go to Sunday School every week so that I can grow in the Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
