AUGUST 24, Proverbs 17:17
Gek Lan was given a book as a gift from her Sunday School class teacher for memorising Bible verses. She was very happy and brought the book to a nearby park to read. When Gek Lan was walking to a bench, naughty Kim Lee who was her neighbour whizzed past her and snatched the book from her. It just happened so quickly that Gek Lan was too shocked to react. She was stunned.
What she saw the next moment was horrible – Kim Lee tore her prize up! She threw the book on the ground and ran away. Gek Lan bent down to pick up the book. She was crying. She cried not just because her book was broken but because Kim Lee was so rude. When they were very little children, they used to play together often, but lately Kim Lee had become so naughty that Gek Lan did not want to play with her anymore. What had happened to the sweet friend Kim Lee used to be? She had been so gentle and kind, but not anymore.
At home, Grandma comforted Gek Lan, then said, “The best thing you can do for Kim Lee is to be kind to her. Kim Lee has no friends to teach her what is right and wrong as her parents are both working and are not Christians. I know that she is now at home, why don’t you go over there now?”
When she got inside Kim Lee’s flat, she found Kim Lee crying. She understood from Kim Lee that she also wished to have a book. Kim Lee’s parents were not able to afford it. Gek Lan said, “But I know how you could get your very own book.”
“How?” asked Kim Lee, wiping away her tears.
“You could come to Sunday School with me. I’ll help you with your memory verses, and then you could earn a book too!”
A real friend is kind to his friends, especially those who are not well-off. You can share your toys and books with them. Not just this alone, you can share Christ with them and bring them to Sunday School. When your friend becomes a Christian, this brings glory to God.
Thought: Shall I bring a friend to Sunday School?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray for _______________ (name of a friend) who is not a Christian and does not go to Sunday School. I want to ask him (her) to go to Sunday School with me. Help me to do this. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
