HEARTS ARE NOT MOVED BY GREAT HAPPENINGS

JULY 25, 1 King 19:11-12

God taught Elijah a great spiritual lesson. He told Elijah to stand before Him on Mt. Horeb. There God showed this man spectacular sights! The Lord passed by and a great & mighty wind tore up the mountains and broke up the great rocks! Wow! But interestingly, the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind came an earthquake. But the Lord was also not in the earthquake. After the earthquake was a magnificent fire. It could have been the same kind of fire that he saw which came from heaven on Mt. Carmel and consumed the sacrifice so completely. But still, God was nowhere to be found. The Lord was not in the fire. After these three great manifestations, a complete hush and stillness ensued. Then came a still small voice. Elijah heard it. For the second time, God asked him what he was doing at Mt. Horeb. Elijah began to whine again and gave God the same old reply. This time, God commanded him to return to the wilderness of Damascus.

God had shown Elijah that miracles or great happenings will not convert a man. It is only by the Holy Spirit using the Word of God that hearts are moved to repent of sins and to believe in the Lord Jesus. When we do our daily quiet time in reading the Bible, the RPG, and prayer, God also speaks to us.

Identify the above three manifestations of God, and draw in the 3rd one.

Thought: God moves hearts.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, how great Thou art. Thank You for teaching me today’s lesson on how I may be able to learn from You if I quieten my heart and listen to Your Word. This I pray in Jesus name, Amen.
