1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
1 Thessalonians 2:19-20
“…and so shall we ever
be with the Lord.”
UNTO THE COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST
One interesting thing to note about 1 Thessalonians is that every chapter closes with a mention of the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ:
1 Thessalonians 1:10: “And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.”
1 Thessalonians 2:19: “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?”
1 Thessalonians 3:13: “To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17: “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 5:23: “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
It is evident that the promise of the Lord’s return was something that Paul wanted the Christians at Thessalonica to be very mindful of. Amid the troubles and persecution that they were facing, he exhorted them to draw strength from the hope and expectation of the victorious return of the Saviour.
Dear reader, is this your hope as well? Do you sincerely and earnestly look forward to the day when the Lord returns and calls us home to glory?
THOUGHT: How should the expectation of the Lord’s return affect the way that I live each day on earth?
PRAYER: Father, may Thou help me to live each day in light of Jesus’ soon return.
