THE IMPORTANCE OF GOD’S GRACE

As we come to the final verse in the book of 1 Thessalonians, it is fitting that we end with a meditation on the grace of God. The closing line of the epistle reads: “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.” Indeed, how important it is for every believer to have the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ with us. It is the favour of God freely given to us, a kindness that we do not deserve. Without the grace of God, we would have no salvation, no sanctification. It is only through the abundant grace of God that we have anything in this life at all. By His grace, He has saved us and forgiven us of all our sins. By His grace, He blesses us abundantly in this life and grants us the promise of eternity in heaven.

Throughout this life, we must have the conviction that the grace of God guides us. It is the blessed assurance that we have, to know that God will always deal with us according to His grace and His goodness. No matter what it is that happens to us, we know that we are under His care and protection. His gracious hand and loving favour guide us through all that we encounter in this life.

When we face trials and times of difficulty, God’s grace is what we need. His words assure us as they did the Apostle Paul when he suffered from the thorn in his flesh: “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong” (2 Cor 12:9-10).

Let us therefore always be thankful for His grace and be assured to know that His abundant grace is always with us. We can look forward to the hope of the soon return of our Lord Jesus Christ, for by His grace we will be ushered home to eternity.

THOUGHT: Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus!
PRAYER: Father, I thank Thee for the wonderful promise of the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ that is ever with us.
